Several weeks ago during our morning worship service I noticed my great-nephew, Jonas, sitting high on the shoulders of his Dad, Jason. As the music was playing, Jason was singing, and he began swaying from side to side; as he did so . . . I noticed that little Jonas put his arms high up in the air and he began to sway in time with his Dad.
I smiled as I watched the two of them and it struck me how some might have grabbed a hold at the first sign of movement, clinging as it were, for dear life. Instead, there was Jonas, sitting tall and fearless, swaying in rhythm with his Dad . . . trusting that he was in control of the situation and would not let him fall.
This made me think of my life with Father . . . and the cry of my heart that morning was, “Please Dear Father . . . let me always be in sync with what you are doing. May I trust you enough that no matter what direction you are leading . . . I will always follow. And may my steps be unwavering in their faith . . . always stepping out in full confidence of your faithfulness and your ability to lead me in the right direction in and through all situations.”
This life we live with Father is full of unknowns for us; though he knows the way and is certain of the outcome . . . we do not. Yet that is what faith is all about . . . believing in God and his ability to love us all the way home.
Psalm 23:1-6 (NIV)
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Anyways . . . I was just thinking . . .
